As every week, the sneaker world was filled with numerous announcements. Between new designs and reinterpretations, there was plenty of action. Here are the details.
The Protection Pack, back where it all began
Five years after shaking up sneaker culture, the Boston firm is ready to revive its deconstructed aesthetic with the return of the original New Balance Protection Pack. Initially imagined by Yue Wu, this trio launched in 2021 had propelled the 2002R as one of the most coveted pairs of the year. Conceived as a tribute to the Bostonians' archives, the Protection Pack has since seen multiple iterations and even made its way onto the New Balance 1906R. Next month, New Balance offers a return to the roots that reaffirms one thing: few pairs have managed to embody the balance between heritage and innovation so well. Be quick!
The Air Max Moto resumes its run
Nothing escapes the 2000s revival. As the Pegasus 2k5 and the Vomero 5 have made strong comebacks, the Swoosh is about to revive another forgotten silhouette: the Air Max Moto. From the Bowerman series, the Moto 2k is part of a dual-cushioning lineage launched in 2003. Cushlon cushioning. Air Max bubble. Technical design. No doubt about it, the silhouette's DNA remains intact. Long sidelined in favor of more modern models like the Pegasus, the pair resumes its run with a fresh new lease of life. And to mark its return, the Swoosh has already planned a first silhouette faithful to its heritage that perfectly marries today's visual codes. A bit more patience is needed, as the first edition will return this summer.
Salehe Bembury puts his stamp down in 368 pages
The designer and artistic director puts pen to paper. Salehe Bembury unveils I Make Shoes, his very first book published by Rizzoli that chronicles over a decade of design through 368 pages of sketches, prototypes and samples. From the Pollex clog to the New Balance 2002R "Water be the Guide" to the Chain Reaction at Versace, the creative director of Crocs finally puts his career into perspective. Conceived in close collaboration with PlayLab, the project is ready to offer a deep dive into his creative process, from raw idea to cult object. "A lot of people only know one part of my work," Bembury shared during a recent interview for Hypebeast. "This book is the chance to show them the full picture." Salehe Bembury isn't limited to a single silhouette. He's building his body of work and invites you to discover it on October 14.
Kith returns to Manhattan: bigger, bolder
Ronnie Fieg, founder of Kith and unofficial ambassador of New York culture, has once again made headlines. Not on the Madison Square Garden court, but on his Instagram account: Kith Manhattan reopens its doors with a brand-new concept store ready to redefine the retail experience in New York. Surrounded by rising figures, Ronnie invites every sneakerhead to join him from 9 AM for a full immersion. On the agenda: ribbon cutting, breakfast, and above all... the launch of the Summer 2025 collection, accompanied by an in-store release of the two Kith x New Balance 2010s, the only point of sale offering these exclusive versions. First come, first served. And those willing to camp outside wearing a pair of NB from previous Ronnie collaborations could well walk away with the 2010s. Fourteen years after opening his first Manhattan store, the feeling remains the same for the Queens native: to keep connecting with his city.
