It's official, the Protection Pack will make a new appearance this fall! Known for its exceptional comfort, durability and style, the most popular deconstructed finish from the Boston-based brand is getting a fourth edition on the New Balance 2002R.
Over the past three years, the model's rise has been meteoric thanks to new colorways and numerous collaborations, and it seems New Balance isn't about to stop. This new collection is set to fill the Bostonians' release calendar, even though the last drop dates back to April.
To avoid inevitable fatigue, the Boston-based brand is adapting its timeless silhouette. While the Protection Pack embodies the spirit of innovation and authenticity, New Balance combines its iconic suede overlays with an urban, trendy and technical exploration.
When the Protection Pack goes outdoor
In recent months, techwear has seen a surge in popularity. So much so that emerging brands like Salomon and Mizuno have been competing with the biggest names, Nike, adidas and New Balance. With more advanced silhouettes like the XT-6 Advanced and the Mizuno Wave Prophecy, outdoor footwear is winning over even the biggest players.
For this occasion, the Boston brand elevates its pack to the next level with an all-new technical finish. The mesh base is replaced by a more robust ripstop fabric on each version respectively named "Eclipse", "Khaki Olive", "Cream" and "Desert". The overlays are made with premium leather and an elegant tone-on-tone suede.
To complete this innovative design, each 2002R features a leather tongue with the inscription "New Balance running" along with a new quicklace system that confirms the pack's outdoor status. Finally, the Bostonians refine each model with an N-ERGY midsole featuring ABZORB SBS cushioning for optimal comfort.
When does the new 2002R Protection Pack release?
While the new New Balance 2002R Protection Pack has already dropped at select retailers, its first worldwide launch will be available on September 21, 2023, exclusively at Concepts BOS, NYC and concepts.com. For the occasion, the shop paired the 2002R Protection Pack with the prestige of the Boston Athenaeum, a museum and private library that protects and preserves art, literature and other archives dating back to the 1800s. A cutting-edge design with historical inspiration.
Finally, its European release is expected on October 1st on New Balance. Each pair will retail for 170€.
