The models are numerous, yet the Swoosh takes pleasure in diving into its archives. The "Reimagined" editions with the Jordan branch are a perfect example. This year and next, Nike is ready to offer a striking journey with several of its icons that defined the 2000s. In the spotlight: the Nike Air Pegasus 2K5, the Nike Air Max Sunder, the Nike Air Max Portal, and the Nike Air Max Craze.
The Nike Air Pegasus 2K5 inspired by the Y2K trend
Blending nostalgia and modernity. This year, the Swoosh is using its signature formula to launch the return of its iconic runner: the Nike Air Pegasus. Breathable. Comfortable. Retro. The runner makes its grand return with its original 2005 design. To revive the model, Nike is banking on attractive colorways, including the Nike Air Pegasus 2k5 "Coconut Milk Bicoastal" edition, which has drawn considerable attention. On the technology side, the 2K5 edition relies on its classic reactivity with a rubber sole, known for combining performance and comfort. And while the pair continues to receive numerous colorways, the modern version features a new forefoot air cushion for optimal comfort.
Nike Air Max Sunder or Air SNDR Max?
Who hasn't heard of the Comme des Garcons x Air Max Sunder range? With the help of Rei Kawakubo and her label, Nike's cross-training silhouette made a notable return during the Comme des Garcons Homme Plus Spring/Summer 2022 show. So much so that the sportswear brand is now preparing to bring back its Nike Air Max Sunder from 1999. Confirmed during the SNKRS Showcase, which unveiled no fewer than 40 new pairs, the cross-trainer will undergo its very first retroed release for its 25th anniversary. On the agenda: three flashy pairs in yellow, pink, and orange, ready to revive the OG archetype with, however, one refresh: its name. As a tribute to the Air Max line, the design will now be called the Air SNDR Max and will launch this fall. Stay tuned!
The 2000s launch the Nike Air Max Portal
With the re-release of the Air Max Sunder and the Clogposite, it seems clear that Nike continues to look back at the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, the sportswear brand won't stop at re-releases. After launching the Air Max DN model that echoes this OG spirit, the Swoosh introduces a new model: the Air Max Portal. A robust design featuring a thick midsole and visible Air Max units at the heel, promising comfort and a touch of nostalgia. Several colorways are already expected by the end of the year for this supersized Sunder.
The Nike Air Max Craze returning in 2025
While the iconic Nike Air Max 95 celebrates its 25th anniversary, another model is expected to join the festivities: the Nike Air Max Craze. Created in 2000 by the Alpha Project division, responsible for technical models like the Presto and the Hyperflight, this design disappeared from the radar and completely faded from the sneaker scene. Next year, the Swoosh appears to be counting on this retro model to continue its success. While details remain scarce, early reports suggest that several colorways of the model will be released. The question remains whether the pair will receive an update or stay true to the retro edition...
