An essential leader, the brand with the Swoosh unveils countless sneakers for its 2022 lineup that make the hearts of many sneaker addicts flutter. Its secret? Undoubtedly its multiple collaborations with talented and avant-garde artists. From Peter Moore, Tinker Hatfield, Bruce Kilgore to Chitose Abe, Virgil Abloh, and Chris Gibbs, Nike calls on the best in order to continuously renew its silhouettes. Indeed, despite overflowing imagination, the sportswear brand aims to ensure original concepts and designs that will mark the year and sneaker culture.
Among its most emblematic collaborators is Tom Sachs, an American visual artist born in New York in 1966. An ally of Nike since 2012, he is the author of the NikeCraft project that propelled him into the sneaker world with the creation of the NikeCraft Mars Yard. Designed for space scientists, this is the first silhouette of an inspiring collaboration that makes its grand return this year.

“It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it” Tom Sachs
Following ten years of collaboration between the American creator and the brand with the Swoosh that revealed three timeless silhouettes designed for astronauts, Tom Sachs seems this time to be addressing everyday life and unveils on his social networks his Boring campaign.
“Your sneakers shouldn’t be the most exciting thing about you. They are tools, and what matters for your tools is that they work. They do their job so you can do yours,” he announces through his campaign. “You put them on and forget about them. You focus on becoming a little faster, a little more precise, to find the signal in the noise. It took us ten years to create a sneaker as simple, as simple as possible and not simpler. A sneaker to do more, a sneaker that doesn’t belong to itself, a sneaker to show off, to prove, to live fully, to be yourself,” he adds.

Thus, the General Purpose Shoe is designed for everyday and basic use. However, the engineering and materials are carefully chosen to offer comfort, support, and a high degree of tactile sensation. Indeed, Tom Sachs and Nike focus on superior quality, tough straps, and a brilliant three-part molded sole.
The “Light Cream” colorway will be the first of multiple colors
Inspired by the Killshot and the Waffle One, this first composition features a simple beige mesh base, contrasted by an overlay of gray suede panels. Discreet and understated, the attention to durability in utility and style is reflected with the upper material that ensures splendid support. Additionally, blue straps are added to contrast the neutral tones presented by this fourth silhouette. The co-branding Tom Sachs x Nike is also added inside the tongue, at the heel tab, and on beautiful blue insoles. Finally, to perfect this unique design, it rests on a brown gumsole, a black outsole, and will be accompanied by a special box.

"It took me years to make the most of the superpowers of scale and to provide value while reflecting the standards. The General Purpose Shoe is a tool to be the best version of yourself," Sachs declares. It reminds us that beauty comes from creating a connection with the things we own: staining it, tearing it, repairing it.
