Next year is already shaping up to be an exciting period for the Swoosh's skateboarding division. Renowned graffiti artist Futura is about to make waves in sneaker culture by teaming up with Nike SB.
Futura, whose real name is Leonard McGurr, is a pioneer who brought art to life with his own signature style, vibrant colors and captivating designs, paving the way for a new cultural aesthetic. Over the decades, he has collaborated with numerous brands and artistic institutions, including Off White and Nike.
When the Off-White x Futura x Nike collaboration appeared at Off White's Spring-Summer 2020 runway show, the world got a glimpse of a legendary collaboration. From Virgil Abloh's now-iconic double-laced version to the abstract and symbolic hand of graffiti artist Futura, this partnership revealed a perfect symbiosis between several creative minds.
This time, Futura and Nike SB are about to unveil their own unique collaboration, bearing the mark of Futura's visionary eye and the SB division's expertise. A promising alliance, true to the mutual admiration between the artist and the brand, along with a shared desire to create a piece that transcends the boundaries of art, fashion and urban culture.
The Nike SB Dunk Low as a canvas for expression
It was on Instagram that @masterchefian revealed a first look at an upcoming collaboration between the two partners, accompanied by the caption "world's first look at the Futura x Nike SB Dunk Low."
At first glance, the pair features a light grey nylon base with overlapping canvas panels showcasing Futura's iconic artwork. The design then opts for various shades of blue on the collar, lateral swoosh and laces. The artist's signature is proudly displayed on the quarter panel, complemented by a co-branded tongue. Finally, the Futura x Nike SB Dunk Low is finished off with a white midsole, an icy translucent outsole, all presented in special packaging with an extra set of laces.
When does the Futura x Nike SB Dunk Low release?
Expect the pair to be available this summer at select skate shops, as well as on the Futura Laboratories online store or on SNKRS. The price remains unknown at this time.
