Origin of the Asics Gel-Kayano
First introduced in 1993, the Asics Gel-Kayano is named after its designer, Toshikazu Kayano. His mission was to create a shoe suitable for both running and indoor sports. The result was a resounding success, paving the way for new Asics Gel-Kayano models over the years, with nearly a new version released each year.
Originally, the beetle served as the inspiration for this functional shoe, as the insect is known for its robustness and adaptability. Certain panels of the runner reflect parts of the beetle, as shown in the archive sketch above. The advantages of the Asics Gel-Kayano 14
The Asics Gel-Kayano 14 is the fourteenth iteration, released in 2008. However, it is one of the few that was not designed by Toshikazu Kayano. Instead, this edition was created by Hidenori Yamashita, who managed to preserve the key hallmarks of the lineup. It was ultimately thanks to Bulgarian designer Kiko Kostadinov that the Gel Kayano 14 got a second wind in 2020.
Durable materials and optimal comfort
Most Asics Gel-Kayano 14s feature a highly breathable mesh upper with fairly wide perforations. The overlays that wrap around the shoe are made of synthetic leather and come in different colors depending on the edition. Additionally, runners in this range are adorned with silver elements that add brightness to the design and reinforce their retro character. On the sole, GEL technology is used to provide good cushioning and reduce impact during movement.
