This weekend, the rapper unveiled the next collaboration between Levi's and the Swoosh around the Air Max 95.
Gone is the technical mesh, replaced by rough canvas, sashiko stitching, and frayed edges. To mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Nike Air Max 95, the sportswear giant is reviving a proven alliance: Levi's, the undisputed king of denim. Following a resounding success in 2018, the Swoosh is determined to make denim its playing field. Together, they are delivering a brand-new collection, revealed exclusively by Lil Yachty on Instagram. The rapper presented three co-branded Air Max 95 pairs that did not go unnoticed. Premium denim. Urban heritage. Couture craftsmanship. Levi's brings the material, Nike the form.
Three pairs. Three colorways. One single theme: denim. On these new designs, the original technical mesh imagined by Sergio Lozano gives way to a thick, worn, almost grainy canvas that faithfully follows the codes of denim. While the gradient construction, the visual signature of the Air Max 95, remains intact, each pair is reinterpreted through denim textures rather than synthetic materials. Deep indigo, washed black, sand beige: the AM95s opt for a refined monochrome that reveals the fabric's richness and patina.
The details accentuate this identity. The visible sashiko stitching is reinforced, recalling Japanese tailoring techniques. The eyelets, traditionally robust, are deliberately left frayed, as a nod to the raw nature of denim. Here, each pair celebrates its irregularities and its material, highlighting an imperfect yet authentic aesthetic. Naturally, the red accents are no coincidence: they reference the red tab, the iconic Levi's emblem typically found on the back pocket of 501 jeans. A discreet but essential detail that recalls the roots of the collaboration.
Three silhouettes, one wardrobe
But the collaboration doesn't stop there. Lil Yachty also revealed a co-branded textile capsule, featuring notably a denim jacket inspired by the legendary Type II. On this piece, a prominent lateral Swoosh is embroidered, with bold lettering across the back, proudly asserting the DNA of both brands. Completed by matching jeans, crafted from the same raw canvas. The message is clear: no standalone pieces, but a cohesive ensemble, designed as a whole. Denim is not an accent, but the common thread of the entire collaboration.
While both partners remain tight-lipped about available quantities for now, the Levi's x Nike Air Max 95 will make their official debut in summer 2025, alongside a complete capsule collection. The three pairs will release exclusively on July 10 at the Levi's Store on the Champs-Elysees, before becoming available on July 11 via Nike SNKRS. Each design will be available at a retail price of $205. Between homage and innovation, Nike and Levi's prove one thing: denim is still very much alive.
