This year, the Boston-based brand made waves with new editions of the New Balance 2002R from the Protection Pack, such as the "Lavender", "Rain Cloud" and "Dark Navy" colorways. These iterations, crafted from premium materials with a deconstructed look, were among the biggest successes of 2022.
New Balance breathed new life into these runners that had been overlooked for several years, bringing them a sense of softness and elegance. After the New Balance 2002R, it is now the New Balance 1906D's turn to get a makeover and adopt the signature elements of the Protection Pack. These new versions do not yet have a confirmed release date, but they are expected in early 2023. However, they are already available at select retailers.
The first visuals revealed have already generated excitement among sneakerheads looking to expand their collection with comfortable and understated models. You will have the choice between four versions: a grey one, a light-toned one, another in darker shades, and finally one that is a subtle blend of the last two.
Four expected silhouettes
All four pairs feature a NERGY sole that is both comfortable and distinctive with its retro design. The deconstructed overlays combining different materials, a hallmark of the Protection Pack, give these editions their unique character and could quickly make them must-cops. You will also notice the traditional NLOCK branding on the quarter panel and the 1906D inscription on the ankle collar, adding refined details to the sneakers' upper.

The New Balance 1906D Protection Pack "Harbor Grey" is likely to win over New Balance fans with its hairy suede overlays in various shades of grey, layered over a matching mesh base. Other grey elements tie the pair together, such as the heel reinforcement and the outsole. Finally, a cream NERGY midsole adds a finishing touch of softness to this pair.

Its black mesh base is accompanied by jagged grey suede and black hairy suede overlays that contrast with the vintage beige sole. Finally, the NLOCK branding on the quarter panel is outlined with a grey trim that completes the design of the New Balance 1906D Protection Pack "Black".

The major difference compared to the other pairs in the pack lies not only in the colorway, but especially in the sole, which adopts a black tone here. The rest of the upper is crafted from various materials ranging from off-white to beige, with touches of grey. The nearly tonal NLOCK branding blends seamlessly with the rest of the upper and completes the unique look of the New Balance 1906D Protection Pack "Turtledove".
