If there's one brand that digs into its catalog to bring back a model from its archives and turn it into a new hit, it's New Balance! After bringing back the 1000 model, the brand continues to explore its many designs to refresh its collection. On the agenda: running, with the powerful return of the New Balance 740.
Originally released in 2010, the pair quickly vanished from the radar, becoming scarce on shelves and in collections. More than a decade after its disappearance, Boston's creative teams are relaunching the silhouette in a reworked version: the New Balance 740v2. Mesh. Metallic overlays. Colorful details. The silhouette gets a fresh look, reinterpreting the Boston brand's classic elements with a sole borrowed from the New Balance 530. As the first models are already starting to appear, New Balance teams up with an iconic figure from today's music scene to mark its grand return.
A collaboration with Amine to launch the New Balance 740v2
After a successful first take on the New Balance 610, Grammy-nominated Portland native Amine adds his personal touch to the 740v2 relaunch. Known for his creativity and strong connection to his hometown, Amine draws inspiration this time from his past, specifically his years at Benson Polytechnic High School, also known as Benson Tech. A place marked by his first steps in music and one that played a key role in developing his creative spirit. To reveal this collaboration, a billboard in Portland was deployed, honoring the artist's accomplishments while officially unveiling his collaborative version of the 740v2.
For the artist, the Amine x New Balance 740v2 is a way to reconnect with his roots. For this occasion, the artist uses blue and bright orange, echoing Benson Tech's colors. On the materials side, rope laces equipped with a snap button bring a practical, functional touch inspired by outdoor activities, while a mix of mesh and leather refines the design. The pair comes in a special box inspired by the design of a vintage MacBook, paying tribute to Benson Tech's Radio KBPS program. In true attention to detail, the box is adorned with stickers on the outside and features a keyboard-like design on the inside. A brochure is also included with the quote: "Three studio albums. Four mixtapes. Two-time award loser. 11-time platinum. Penn State dropout. 5 billion streams. Festival founder. Local hero. Two NB collabs. And yes, Benson graduate."
But Amine doesn't stop there. True to his commitment to youth and his heritage, the artist decided to donate $25,000 to graduates of his former high school's Radio KBPS program. "The Radio KBPS program at Benson Tech was the beginning of my music journey," he shared on his Instagram account. The sum is intended to help them with their college studies, marking a desire to support the next generation of creators.
When does it release?
The various iterations of the New Balance 740v2 will arrive soon on New Balance, while the Amine x New Balance 740v2 will be available exclusively on November 1, 2024 on the artist's website, Club Banana. However, the model's price has yet to be revealed. A little more patience!
