New Balance reveals the 983, a new silhouette inspired by the 2000s that marks a new chapter in the brand's running catalog.
After unveiling the upcoming silhouettes of its Made in USA collection, New Balance continues to enrich its catalog. This time, the Boston brand is changing gears with the arrival of the New Balance 983, a new silhouette inspired by 2000s runners. This was a particularly significant period in New Balance's history, and its codes continue to influence the brand's new creations today.
To envision this new 983, New Balance's creative teams dove into the archives. However, there was no intention to bring back an old silhouette. The brand takes several elements from its 2000s performance models and combines them into a fresh silhouette. This approach allows New Balance to maintain the codes that defined that era while adapting them to its current catalog.
A new silhouette with archival vibes
Like many runners that emerged in the early 2000s, the New Balance 983 features a particularly intricate construction where materials and overlays abound. The sneaker boasts a mesh base complemented by several synthetic reinforcements that add structure. On the sides, the classic N logo is integrated among the various overlays, while New Balance opts for a chunky sole equipped with Abzorb technology, which has been used by the Boston brand for several decades.

And for its debut, the 983 opts for a particularly colorful construction. Several shades of blue layer over a dark gray mesh base. From light blue to navy, New Balance plays with contrasts while a few touches of purple complete the look.
New Balance is already preparing the next drop
New Balance isn't stopping at just one design. A few weeks after its launch, the 983 will be ready to switch things up with the arrival of a second version. Set to drop in November, this new take is ready to move away from the various shades of blue for an almost entirely gray construction. A must-have colorway for New Balance, which has become inseparable from the brand's identity over the decades.

A third design is also on the horizon. This time, New Balance's creative teams are expected to focus on a much lighter base accompanied by various touches of blue and gray. Three initial interpretations that will gradually help the 983 find its place alongside the many runners that make up the Boston-based brand's catalog today.
And when is it dropping?
