They made one of the best pairs in 2022, one of the least appreciated in 2023, and yet they're back! Nike and Jacquemus are about to shake up the sneaker game once again with a new collaboration for 2024. No surprise, since the founder and artistic director of the eponymous label brought back the Nike Air Humara from the archives and broke the institutional codes of the timeless Air Force 1. As the saying goes, things come in threes!
This time, Simon Porte Jacquemus is about to infuse his collections' DNA into the iconic Air Max 1 silhouette by bringing it back to its Big Bubble heritage. For their first partnership, both partners had used a combination we're accustomed to seeing from the Swoosh: a somewhat forgotten model, a catchy and premium collaboration, and success was guaranteed!
However, the reinterpretation of the Nike J Force Low particularly divided the sneaker world. Deemed too simple, everyone expected haute couture to permeate Bruce Kilgore's design in the same way as the Humara.
The Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 '86 is getting ready to merge Nike's heritage with the sensibilities of the French southerner. A bold reinterpretation of the forgotten model, showcasing his innovative vision. And it was following the show held at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence that Jacquemus finally made official his new chapter with the Swoosh.
French elegance by Jacquemus
Just like the J Force, Jacquemus departs from the traditional model by modifying the Air Max '86 upper. On the menu: a two-pair pack with different finishes, mesh for one and full leather for the other. A new perspective for the model after the successful revival of the Air Max 1 '86 OG during Air Max Day 2023. The Metallic Silver version features a futuristic metallic mesh and leather base, complemented by a mini Swoosh on the lateral side, echoing the style of previous pairs. On the branding side, co-branded details appear on the heel tab, insoles, and hang tags. And to give the pair a premium feel, Jacquemus inserts a quilted lining and a square panel at the forefoot.

The white colorway takes a more traditional and luxurious approach. Suede is carefully used at the front, while white leather forms the upper. Jacquemus then adds perforations on the lateral side, which enhances the texture and depth of the design. Like the previous version, the Air Sole unit adopts a more prominent rectangular shape, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Air Max cushioning.
Update Wednesday, June 5, 2024:
After a few months of waiting, Jacquemus has finally made his Nike Air Max 1 '86 pack official. While two pairs were announced last February, it is ultimately three designs that will expand the collaboration between both partners. On the menu: various red shades and textures from the sole to the toe for the Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 '86 "Red". Of course, the French designer offers a new meticulous finish by adding his signature elements seen earlier.
When does it drop?
The Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG pairs will arrive during the month of June via the Jacquemus website, Nike SNKRS, and a selection of stores. The retail price for each pair is set at 180 euros.
