Nike officially announces Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's arrival in its athlete family, marking a new milestone in the MVP's career
It's now official: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander joins the Nike Basketball family as a signature athlete. The announcement was revealed by the player himself on his social media through a logo that transitions from the Converse universe to the Swoosh, before returning to its original form. The official confirmation came shortly after, via an official statement from Nike and shared by industry specialist Nick DePaula. He shared a snippet confirming the player's arrival at Nike Basketball, while highlighting the continuity of the work done with Converse, a brand affiliated with the Nike group, where Shai plays a central role.

In its statement, Nike emphasizes the importance of the player's journey and his growing influence. The brand states: “After two consecutive seasons crowned with an MVP title, we are thrilled to extend Shai's incredible impact with Converse, where he has established himself as one of the most inspiring creators in the game.” This confirmation acknowledges both his athletic performance and his creative impact.
From Converse to Nike
If Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has established himself as one of the most notable faces in the NBA in recent seasons, it's also because he has built a steady progression to the top of the league. Driven by two consecutive top campaigns and an MVP status, he embodies the idea of a new generation.

In this context, his time at Converse played a major role. Arriving in 2020, Shai spent six years with the brand, during which he took a central place in the division. More than just an ambassador, the player, who plays as a guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, became a true pillar of Converse's repositioning in the performance segment, helping to reestablish the brand in the NBA and sneaker landscape. This collaboration notably took shape through the Converse Shai 001, the athlete's first signature silhouette, unveiled for the first time during the 2025 All-Star Game.
The transition to Nike Basketball then seems like a continuity that makes sense. Before his signing with Converse, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander notably played with Nike models, particularly from the Kobe line. While the signing is now official, no projects or first collection under Nike's basketball division have been revealed yet.
